With its upmarket vibe, bustling main drag and manicured foreshore, it comes across like a well-heeled city suburb. After all, this wasn’t moody Greenwich Village or downtown Paris, it was the sun-drenched Australian coast. But somehow, it worked. Starting out as a jazzer\/beatnik haunt, it hit its rock’n’roll stride once surf culture took off in the early 60s.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\"\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EOver the course of the decade, bands such as \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/holy-gogo-boots-batman.blogspot.com.au\/2015\/01\/melbourne-song-of-month-shame-shame.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EThe Spinning Wheels\u003C\/a\u003E, Max Merrit and the Meteors and \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/holy-gogo-boots-batman.blogspot.com.au\/2014\/02\/melbourne-song-of-month-loved-onethe.html\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EThe Loved Ones\u003C\/a\u003E played to high-spirited crowds still buzzing from a day on the beach.
